General workshop information

Workshops at the Barn run from 10.00am to 4.00pm.

Times and dates for tuition at Stone Creek Barn can be flexible; for instance you could come on your own or with up to three friends/colleagues, for a single day or two during the week. Or come for a weekend to cover a specific topic of your choice or you could come for a day a month to follow a more structured course. Come for a whole week and make a holiday of it. There is excellent accommodation locally.

Possible subjects can include: cyanotyping on fabric (blueprinting), manipulating images using Photoshop Elements, digital images on fabric, discharge work, various types of screenprinting, procion dyeing, using dye paints, monoprinting using a gelatine plate, silk painting, with or without gutta and indigo dyeing with shibori.

Scheduled workshops are listed, along with their costs, on the Short Courses at the Barn page. The non-refundable deposit is payable when you book the course and the balance is payable four weeks before the start of the course. This includes tuition and dyes, paints etc which will cover the workshop. For some workshops you will be asked to bring your own fabrics but more will usually be available for purchase if required.

If you’d like to come for individual tuition or a custom course, the charge is £150 per day if you come on your own or £80 per person per day for two or more students. Payment for custom days is due four weeks before the start of the course.

Tea, coffee and biscuits, as desired, are provided. A light lunch of the quiche and salad/jacket potato/soup and a roll type is included in the price of the workshop. If you have any food dislikes/allergies/intolerances please let me know. I can cater for most requirements if I know in good time.

If you’d like to book any of the workshops you can either book and pay online, paying by debit/credit card or PayPal account, or you can send a cheque or pay by bank transfer. Whichever method you use a non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking, with the balance payable four weeks before the workshop. A short list of equipment/materials to bring (if possible) will be sent out a couple of weeks before the workshop.

The cost DOESN’T include accommodation. There are four excellent bed and breakfast places near here – individual accommodation rather than ‘stay with the family’ – that charge approximately £35 a night inc full English breakfast. Or, there are small hotels if you don’t mind travelling a little further, or a full range of accommodation in Hull, which is approximately 15 miles away.

Please bear in mind that the Barn is just that, a converted barn. The floors are a bit uneven so comfortable footwear is a good idea. Some courses are also deliciously messy so it would be wise to bring some protective clothing or wear old clothes.

If you cancel your booking within four weeks of the workshop then full payment will still be due unless I can fill the place (which I often can if I have enough time). If I have to cancel a workshop then a full refund will be made.

Wheelchair access:
Unfortunately the barn isn’t suitable for wheelchair users – it has a narrow entrance door, that can’t be widened because we are in a conservation area, and steep steps up to the first floor where most of the teaching takes place.
